Ultra Violet: Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year

A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade

Pantone 2018 color Ultra Violet

The color experts at Pantone chose Ultra Violet for the 2018 color of the year because it "communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future." They went on to explain that "Ultra Violet is a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level, from exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection."

When Colleen Ewart, owner of Island Cove Beads & Gallery, heard the news of Pantone's pick for 2018, she remarked, "I love it! Purple is my first love, then came turquoise."

A few of the purple gemstone beads and cabochons in stock at Island Cove include amethyst and charoite. But if seashell beads are more up your alley, shop our strands of Deep Purple Coin Mussel Shell beads and Mini Purple Heishi Pallium Seashell beads.

Beyond just beads, if you'd like to weave purple or violet hues into your next corded jewelry design, here are a few ways to integrate this amazing shade into your repertoire:

In addition to the Ultra Violet inspired assortment of rich purple and deep violet beads pictured above, we've added new fun pops of bright color in lime punch and cherry tomato red, plus the more dramatic chili oil and spring crocus shades. Pantone describes the full spring palette as "a kaleidoscopic bounty of uplifting shades and feel-good tones." The table-cut hibiscus flower beads and sparkly strands of 2mm and 3mm gemstone beads (shown below) are making their debut this January.
