Oh my gosh, I had so much fun yesterday making my domino man for Halloween. Now I know Halloween is over, but the holidays are bringing a whole family of domino creations to life. After you make one you’ll want to make another, so be warned!
Artist, Susan Sudnick, has put together these whimsical kits which include a painted domino with wire links already made and installed, you will still have to glue in the wire that supports the head, but the hole is provided making it is easy to do so. You will find a wonderland of assorted beads to string on the provided cord which you will use for the arms and legs. You can also add your own beads. What a great way to use up all those odd beads you have collected.
While the end result is very rewarding, the process of building and designing your doll is the best. It is also a great winter break activity you can share with the kids. And you end up with a fun ornament or a unique holiday gift.
Like so many of us, Susan was drawn to the treasure trove of Island Cove Beads and Gallery. She now creates so that we can create. She has many other kits and classes including Rosie’s Rivets, Kumihimo, Prismatic Right Angle Weave, Resin, Viking Knit and the ever popular “Shrinkettes.” While traveling and imagining other ways to incorporate the shrinkettes in design, Susan came across a “Steam-Punk” artist in Sarasota who was working with dominoes. And from there the domino man was born.
It seems there is no end to what can be created with beads and a little imagination. One person’s idea sparks a design which is then shared and enjoyed. It is the domino effect indeed!
